Nehring presents a down-to-Earth and often funny account of teaching--what it's like and what it should be like. Although the author talks about high schools, many of the issues he grapples with exist throughout all grades.
4. The Parents' Public School Handbook: How to Make the Most of Your Child's Education, from Kindergarten Through Middle School, Kenneth Shore, Psy. D., Simon & Schuster,1994, ISBN 0-671-79498-1. This book explains school operation simply but completely, and is an outstanding source for parents who seek an active role in their children's education. Parents are encouraged to read this book.
5. 21st Century Misspeller's Dictionary, Princeton Language Institute, Dell Publishing Co. ISBN 0-440-21545-5. This dictionary contains no definitions. It gives common misspellings of words in the left column and the correct spelling in the right. The back of the book contains a section of commonly confused words (such as they're and their). It also gives word lists containing the books of the Bible, the names of states, months of the year and other sets of works.
6. Reading Yellow Pages for Students and Teachers, Incentive Publications, Inc., Nashville, TN. ISBN 0-86530-029-1. This book is helpful if you need lists of words grouped together by phonetic or structural traits, such as words beginning with "bl," and ending with a "silent e," etc.
